TWIL October 2nd 2026
- Skipped last week because of Silver Week + 2 days annual leave
- Git tracks file permissions
- Apple makes it way too easy to find 'developer docs' that read like marketing materials
- And way too hard to find the actual docs even from there
- They also steer you hard toward their preferred way of doing things by kinda implying other ways aren't possible
- i.e. why would I need an app in the App Store to use OIDC against someone's Apple account???
- but the docs heavily imply this is the case
- If there's an accessor for an attribute but no writer, you can still modify the contents of the value directly if it's a Hash/Array
- You can technically give an IAM account permission to work with a resource in another AWS account
- But you need that permission in both the resource's policy and the IAM user's policy
- MDN's docs are surprisingly lacking in one area: DATA frames
- They're mentioned as making the
Content-Lengthheader redundant on its page - But there's no link explaining what they are
- Though in fairness to MDN, documentation about what exactly they are and how they can be used in place of
Content-Lengthis lacking in general based on my googling
- They're mentioned as making the
Links
- Snail Racing - Adam Greenough
An excellent use of however much time it took to make this. Also I always enjoy sites with a CLI.
- The Root Scroller and how not to lose it - Polypane
I was unfamiliar with the concept and have probably 'lost it' on several personal projects at the very least. Losing it breaks both scroll restoration and scrollTo etc. calls.
- How the heck do locks work? - Shri Kapalda
I'm actually pretty familiar with the basics of how locks work from years of lockpicking in games and detective novels, but there's still some interesting details here (like how master keys work). And as always the interactive graphics are handy.
