The Hex

Yep, that's a Daniel Mullins game

You might think being known for 4th-wall breaking meta-games might blunt the impact of said games, but that doesn't stop Daniel Mullins churning out bangers. Inscryption set a high bar; and while The Hex doesn't quite reach it a lot of the same creativity which made that game great is present here as well, in an earlier form and less constrained by needing to be a 'card game'.

That lack of constraint is a double-edged sword, allowing for a wider variety of meta-takes on different genres while potentially losing players by hopping to a genre they don't enjoy. None of these sections are too long though, and there's always a creative switch-up on the horizon to clear your palette. My personal favourite was the grid-based tactics section where you're given access to literal cheats and need to use them creatively to proceed.

Definitely give this a try if you enjoyed other games by this dev, or just play a lot of different games and want to play a bunch of creative/funny deconstructions of genres linked by a spooky meta-narrative.
